Work is continuing to update the Installation and Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship standard in England.
Overseen by a representative employer group, which includes a number of ECA members, the changes proposed include greater coverage of net zero and digital technologies, especially around electrical vehicle charging.
During September, an industry-wide consultation on the proposed new standard, including these changes, elicited over 300 responses, the vast majority of them supportive. A revised version of the new standard, taking account of other comments and suggestions received during the consultation, will be submitted to the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education, in the hope that IfATE will then complete on its own (brief) public consultation exercise in November.
In parallel, NET, training providers and awarding organisations are pressing ahead with associated changes to qualifications, end point assessment and proposed funding arrangements. All involved remain committed to getting everything ready in time for launch at the start of the next (2023/24) academic year.
