JTL launches new Domestic Electrician Apprenticeship campaign

JTL, one of the leading apprenticeship providers in England and Wales, has launched a four-week campaign ahead of its new Domestic Electrician Apprenticeship which commences in January 2023.

The ‘Need a Bright Spark?’ campaign aims to educate employers about the new Domestic Electrician Apprenticeship Standard. The industry-recognised apprenticeship focuses on electrical installation in domestic dwellings and covers the skills, knowledge, understanding and performance required by an electrician working exclusively in this type of environment.

The apprenticeship takes three years to complete and covers solely the scope of work as a domestic electrician. This includes areas such as design, installation and the testing of systems which provide traditional heating, power, and comfort and convenience technologies within domestic dwellings.

The course differs from the existing 4-year Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification as it does not include the necessary teaching required for any kind of industrial or commercial work setting. This course therefore prepares learners for employers that work exclusively within domestic properties.

Chris Sulley, Electrical Curriculum Manager at JTL, said: “The new Domestic Electrician Apprenticeship Standard means that we now have a clear identity and industry standard for domestic electrical work. We’re also pleased to deliver an apprenticeship that sufficiently prepares learners for the modern landscape by covering new technologies such as solar PV and battery storage systems.

“The qualification includes a combination of knowledge and performance units, and assessment is carried out via onsite performance of evidence, onscreen exams and centre marked theory and practical assessments.”
