Marshall-Tufflex’s new Sterling Compact trunking was recently used in the construction of two temporary medical facilities in Dublin and Limerick, both designed to help with the response to COVID-19 in the local areas.
The Step-down and Self-isolation Centre at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin provided 325 beds in the converted conference centre for those who tested positive for COVID-19, as well as 1,000 beds in the hotel for people unable to self-isolate at home. Similarly, a 68 bed Interim Care facility was built in the sports arena at the University of Limerick. In both cases the Sterling Compact trunking was used to route power and lighting cables to the individual bed bays.
Bernard Carroll, External Sales Executive at Core Distribution, our distributor in the Republic of Ireland explained: “We worked closely with the Health Service Executive (HSE) and put forward a number of different cable management products for use on these projects. The Sterling Compact was selected for its minimal profile and smooth surface that would make effective cleaning simple. Infection control was of course the priority, so each part of the building had to support this.
“Due to the urgent need to have these facilities set up, speed and product availability were also crucial. The products were ready and waiting in stock and within two hours of receiving the final order for the Citywest centre, the products were delivered to site and ready to use.”
Sterling Compact was recent launched and rebranded following a re-design to improve user experience and installation.
At just 140mm by 50mm it is the smallest three compartment trunking option in the Marshall-Tufflex range and is suitable for dado applications, as well as areas that may have restricted space. It is fully compatible and interchangeable with the visually identical older style Mono Plus 20 system, accommodates standard power, voice and data cabling and is compliant up to Cat 7a. In line with their Reassuringly Recycled commitment to sustainability, Sterling Compact trunking is manufactured from 84% recycled PVC-U.
To support contractors in fully complying with the 18th Edition of IET wiring regulations BS 7671, Firefly fire clips are available. The clips secure cables within the trunking to prevent premature collapse in the event of a fire, offering fire resistance of above 1000°C for up to 120 minutes. Furthermore, Sterling Compact is manufactured from PVC-U that is self-extinguishing and non-flame propagating.
